Sterling receives validation from SBTi for its emission reduction targets

News2 min read

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has validated Sterling Pharma Solutions’ near-term, long-term and net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions targets, which confirms their alignment with the actions required to meet global climate goals.

The SBTi is a corporate climate action organisation that has developed standards, tools and guidance, based on the latest climate science, to enable companies worldwide to play their part in combating the climate crisis.

This demonstrates Sterling’s continued commitment to the reduction of its emissions and those of its supply chain, as part of its wider corporate responsibility framework.

Ian Lisle, Chief Quality and EHS Officer, at Sterling Pharma Solutions, said: “This is a significant milestone for our business, as we continue our roadmap for emission reductions.

“Validation of these targets provides confidence to our customers and investors that we understand the importance of decarbonisation and the need to respond to the climate crisis.”

Our near-term targets

  • To reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 63.0% by 2035
  • By 2031 80.4% of our suppliers will have science-based targets

Our long-term targets

  • To reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 90.0% by 2050
  • To reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services, capital goods, fuel-and energy-related activities, and waste generated in operations by 90.0% by 2050

Net-zero target

  • To achieve net-zero GHG across the value chain by 2050

Ian added: “Our short term focus will be on efficiency, reducing consumption and on-site renewable energy, with the longer-term challenge of green heat across our sites.

“Our sites have already made significant changes and improvements to their processes and systems, as well as larger investment projects in waste water treatment, residual heat and steam capture, a CHP and AD plant, to name a few.”

Sterling will build on previous initiatives to drive carbon reduction across its sites and through its supply chain in support of global and pharmaceutical industry GHG reduction goals, and in alignment with its corporate responsibility framework.
