Summary of Role
The Senior Manager, Environmental Health & Safety, is accountable for driving a safety-focused culture through consistent employee engagement and safety program creation, implementation, and enhancement. The ideal candidate will drive the execution of EHS OSHA programs, leveraging training, procedural authoring and review, and relationship building with key stakeholders to drive an enhanced safety performance throughout the site. The role will aid in maintaining EHS systems executing change control for master documents and leveraging appropriate SME’s to ensure a high quality output. A pragmatic and continuous improvement mindset is a key quality for success in this role. Core Accountabilities
Acting as visible, working leader of the Health & Safety Program on site. This will include on a day-to-day basis:
- Ensure compliance with all applicable legislation.
- Provide the necessary, support and leadership to assist management to implement all legislation, corporate policies and internal procedures for Health & Safety.
- Ensure due regard is given to Health & Safety in all operational decisions, incl. Process & Equipment design, Chemical handling, new technology introduction and Maintenance.
- Participate in the Emergency Management Team.
- Integrate safety responsibilities into all levels of management and supervision via a hands-on, practical, and employee engagement approach.
- Regulatory compliance, ensuring adherence to federal, state, local, and internal requirements, including EPA, DNR, Village of Germantown, and company policies.
- Outline the Safety management strategy and objectives.
Additional Essential Functions
- Serves as the key EH&S stakeholder on site to engage with SLT, managers and with staff in labs and manufacturing. Demonstrate safety as a core value and establish safe work environment by actively leading the safe execution of work.
- Leads and drives incident investigations to ensure root cause is determined in timely manner and appropriate CAPA’s designed and implemented that eliminate existing dangers and create solutions that will reduce the risk of other accidents occurring.
- Analyses accident and incident reports and data for trends; makes recommendations for correcting unsafe conditions and actions.
- Supports EHS aspects of SOPs and work processes such the authoring of MPRs, RSTRs, and other EHS-related work instructions, investigations and other work products as assigned.
- Facilitates the inclusion of appropriate SME’s in MPR’s, STR’s and other key procedures to ensure appropriate safety considerations are comprehensive, executable, and understandable.
- Supports new employee and contractor EHS orientation and onboarding by conducting training, fit-testing, hazard communication, and other activities.
- Inspect workplace environments, activities and conditions to verify compliance with federal laws, regulations and requirements.
- Assists in the completion of regulatory and internal procedures such as environmental sampling, testing, report preparation, incident investigation, inspections, and audits.
- Audits document files and safety programs to ensure compliance with external and internal EHS and quality assurance requirements.
- Performs routine training on OSHA programs as assigned.
- Organize programs for employee safety and conduct educational trainings to instruct all workers on proper workplace behavior and activity.
- Ensures timely completion and compliance with cGMP and all other relevant company training requirements.

- Provide the operational support required to ensure a positive Safety culture is maintained on site.
- Ensure emergency plans are in place, tested regularly.

- Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and enforce safety programs, training and SOP’s.

- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
- General working knowledge of cGMP procedures and safety regulations.
- Candidates need to be competent with IT systems, and Microsoft Office including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Excel.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, health science or similar.
- Minimum of 5 years related experience in EHS, life sciences or manufacturing > 10 years preferred.
Travel Requirement
- Up to 5% travel required.
