Over the last decade, the landscape for contract development and manufacturing organisations (CDMOs) in the pharmaceutical industry has changed exponentially. Demand for shorter timescales, greater efficiency in the supply chain and cost savings has been in part driven by downward price pressures from governments. As a result, contract partners are bolstering their service offerings to cater for rising customer expectations.
Added to this, the growing number of emerging and virtual pharmaceutical companies, that have little or no in-house manufacturing capabilities, are turning to contract partners to provide these services, also supporting growth in the outsourcing space.
