Summary of Senior Scientist
 
We are currently seeking two Senior Scientists within the R&D department for an internal promotion based at Dudley, Northumberland, UK. The successful candidate will be acting as lead chemist in the support of chemistry projects and provide guidance and technical advice to chemists within the technical group.
 
Responsibilities
 
  • Developing and demonstrating new processes in the laboratory
  • Translating processes into ones which are capable of running within Sterling assets at the appropriate scale 
  • Providing guidance and technical advice to chemists within the technical group
  • Leading small chemistry projects and coordinating the activities of a small group of chemists in support of the project 
  • Acting as a lead chemist in the support of externally managed projects 
  • Leading housekeeping support projects as appropriate
  • Defining and demonstrating process routes, draft process outlines and approve PRSs
  • Organising and/or supporting scale-up lab, pilot and commercial manufacture
  • Providing support for NPI proposal process through the generation of technical data as required
 
Key Skills and Competencies
 
  • Minimum of a degree in chemistry
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in pharmaceutical/fine chemical industry as a Development Chemist 
  • Experience of bringing in new products from external customers 
  • Ideally, experience in project management or technical support functions 
  • Must be commercially aware, especially relating to project value and return on investment
  • The ideal candidate will be SAP trained 
 
We also require candidates to be competent with IT systems, and in particular Microsoft Office including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
