About Sterling’s Summer Internship Program
The Sterling Summer Intern Program is a paid 11-week program from June 2 – August 15, 2025. Sterling interns are provided hands-on work experience building upon knowledge and skills learned in the classroom. Interns work side-by-side industry leaders in a dynamic, fast-paced environment who are passionate about being part of a team developing life-saving drugs around the world. Throughout the 11-week program, interns will work on defined individual projects to learn about GMP fundamentals and techniques from Sterling professionals. The program concludes with individual presentations to the Germantown Sterling Leadership team and site.

Your Responsibilities
The position requires behaviors of the Sterling core competencies and non-negotiables, as well as expertise in functional competencies included in this position profile.
The Project Engineer Intern will be assigned projects at various points in their life cycle by the Engineering Manager with the following expectations:
  • Develop conceptual project through meetings with project sponsors and area owners. Develop solutions, including user requirements and plans, determine project specifications and technology options, and present to engineering team for approval.
  • Develop Capital Authorization Request through quotations and estimates from contractors and internal resources. Route for approval.
  • Execute project installation by managing contractors and internal resources, including engineering, operations, maintenance, and Environmental Health & Safety. Develop and execute Installation and Operational Qualification plan.
  • Walk down existing Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams and compare to the as-installed conditions, red-lining the drawings to match the existing installation. The Intern will then work with the Project Engineer or independently to update the Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams in AutoCAD based on the red lines

Requirements for the Role
  • Enrolled in a 4-year college or university pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering, or Pharmaceutical Sciences of at least a Sophomore level.
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and documentation skills required.
  • Excellent detail orientation and organizational skills required.
  • Excellent problem-solving and basic trouble-shooting ability required.
  • Awareness or prior work experience in a GMP environment preferred.
  • Candidates need to be competent with IT systems, and Microsoft Office including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
  • Candidates with AutoCAD experience preferred.
