Summary of Production Support Chemist role

As the Production Support Chemist you will report directly into the Process Improvement Manager working as part of our Research and Development team. You will provide support and technical guidance to the manufacture of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) and intermediates for emerging drug candidates and established commercial products. 

Your goal/purpose will be to support the smooth introduction of new processes into manufacturing assets and supporting the continuous improvement of our production performance with a focus on reducing activities which are non-value adding i.e. cleanouts/commissioning and reducing costs associated with these activities. 

Please note that this role will be working 12-hour shifts covering a 24/7 period of days and nights.

Responsibilities

  • Providing technical support and oversight to processes during manufacture, with particular emphasis on the successful introduction of new process stages.
  • Starting investigations into processing issues (e.g. atypical in-process results, reduced yields) and working with project teams to resolve issues.
  • Accompanying customers during site visits for plant observation.
  • Preparing of current good manufacturing practice (cGMP) documentation to support processes as required.
  • Tracking process data to allow process improvement opportunities to be identified.
  • Implementing and maintaining key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Laboratory work outside standard daytime working hours to support R&D and Kilo laboratory programmes.

Key Skills and Competencies
  • Must have a degree in Chemistry.
  • Previous experience working within a cGMP environment would be highly advantageous
  • Computer literate in Word and Excel, ideally with knowledge of SAP.
  • Good organisation and time management skills.
  • Good problem solving and planning skills.
