Process Development Scientist (Bio-Conjugation)

Summary of Process Development Scientist Role

This role is a permanent position based in the Process Development Group in Deeside (North Wales) and the key responsibilities are to:
  • develop processes for the conjugation, purification and testing of antibody drug conjugates
  • perform process robustness, characterisation and optimisation studies
  • process scale up (and ultimately transfer into manufacturing facilities)
  • Formulation development and stability studies as required
You will work in a fast-paced environment and will have direct client contact. This requires you to work accurately, to high quality standards and to tight timelines. Clear communication of complex data sets via written and oral presentations is a regular requirement.  
Initially laboratory based but for the right candidate will offer job progression:
  • Proposal writing and project management
  • Cross working in quality control and manufacturing departments
  • Representing the company at conferences and client meetings
  • Supporting business development

Responsibilities
  • To develop processes for the conjugation, purification and testing of antibody drug conjugates
  • To perform process robustness, characterisation and optimisation studies
  • To process scale up (and ultimately transfer into manufacturing facilities)
  • Formulation development and stability studies as required

Key Skills and Competencies
Education
  • Minimum of a BSc degree in Biological/Biochemical Sciences, Chemistry, Engineering or related discipline.
Experience
  • A minimum of 3 years relevant practical laboratory experience gained in a relevant role - for example protein downstream process development or analysis
  • ideally experience of working under Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) ideally GMP
Skills - Essential
Significant Practical Experience in at least one of the following aspects:
Antibody and / or Protein
  • Conjugation/Modification
  • Purification Process Development
  • Physicochemical  Analysis
  • HPLC based analysis or characterisation
  • Mass Spectrometry analysis / characterisation
  • Good communication skills, interpersonal skills, ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Skills - Highly Desirable
Previous biotech industry experience in process development or process scale up / manufacturing.
Experience in the use of Experimental Design (DOE) and statistical data analysis
Understanding of the QbD concept
Experience of protein formulation screening/development

We also require candidates to be competent with IT systems, and in particular Microsoft Office including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
