Summary of Engineering Projects Manager role

We are seeking a suitably qualified Engineering Projects Manager to join the Projects Engineering team based at Dudley, Northumberland, UK. It is the Engineering Projects Managers responsibility to lead, co-ordinate and manage a team of Project Engineers in the safe design and delivery of New Product Introduction (NPI) and infrastructure projects to the agreed scope, within cost and schedule targets. 

  • Comply with all HSE requirements including safety policies and procedures
  • Conduct HSE audits/risk assessments
  • Ensure compliance with COMAH critical aspects of the Process Safety Management System  and Major Accident Prevention Policy (MAPP) where relevant to area of responsibility
  • Take part in safety audits/inspections as requested
  • Facilitate safe installation and handover of the approved facilities
  • Provide specialist advice as appropriate
  • Work with the Dudley SLT to improve HSE standards within Project Engineering
  • As a SAP user the job holder will be required to carry out assigned SAP transactions in an accurate and timely manner
  • Provide project engineering and project team leadership for major projects.  Coach and develop other project engineers
  • Develop plans and strategies for longer term strategic improvements in equipment performance, equipment spares, compliance and predictive maintenance
  • Oversee the preparation of designs, specifications and implementation of chosen options
  • Manage the preparation of CARs including scope of work, cost definition and installation programme
  • Oversee the preparation of equipment and contract specifications
  • Oversee competitive quotation and purchase requisition processes
  • Provide guidance and support for validation processes
  • Lead project engineers on practical aspects of design proposals, labour cost estimates, methods of installation and preparation of material take-off lists for piping, valves and ancillaries
  • Facilitate the procurement of materials and implementation of work request from plant departments
  • Review and maintain company engineering design and project management procedures
  • Manage and prioritise drawing office workload.  Liaise with Projects Manager on drawing office resource levels 
  • Review and maintain company drawing office procedures
  • Oversee and manage design calculations and preparation of engineering drawings
  • Manage multi-disciplined project teams on major capital projects with full accountability for all project aspects
  • Provide professional guidance to junior engineers and lead project teams
  • Identify and arrange training for project team as necessary
  • Oversee and manage project cost estimates
  • Monitor and control project costs
  • Provide labour and equipment cost estimates as required

Key Skills and Competencies
  • Ideally a degree in chemical, mechanical or electrical engineering
  • More than five years’ experience in comparable manufacturing facility
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to lead and motivate a multi-disciplined team
We also require candidates to be competent with IT systems, and in particular Microsoft Office including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
