E&I Project Engineer

Summary of the E&I Project Engineer role

Sterling Pharma Solutions currently have an opportunity for an Electrical and Instrumentation Project Engineer to complement our existing Engineering Projects teams based at our site in Cramlington.

You will implement the E&I content of authorised projects on a top tier COMAH site that by nature contains Hazardous Area environments and the application of DSEAR and ATEX legislation.

The ideal candidate will have a strong electrical bias, however an ability to complete instrumentation scopes would be a distinct advantage.

  • Providing specialist support for E&I content, estimating capital expenditure and delivery timelines.
  • Handling E&I Engineering Projects from basic initial design through to completion and handover within authorised cost and to agreed timescales.
  • Designing, implementing, maintaining and improving electrical products and systems.
  • Preparing detailed E&I design deliverables e.g., circuit and schematic diagrams, control panel layouts, MCC layouts, cable routes etc.
  • Supervising the E&I project installation phase.
  • Assisting with plant commissioning and validation.
  • Ensuring that electrical, instrument and control schemes operate within the framework of national and company standards.
  • Responsible for the design within safety, quality and environmental standards.
  • Conducting audits.
  • Complying with all HSE requirements including safety policies and procedures.
  • Carrying out duties as appropriate within the company permit to work system.
  • Supervising and directing junior projects engineers and technicians.
  • Coordinating the activities of EPCM contract engineers.
  • Establishing and enforcing design, construction and installation standards.
  • Providing technical assistance to Maintenance Instrument Technician/Electricians during and out of office hours.

Requirements for the role
  • Ideally hold a BSc/BEng degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum HNC in E&I or Control Instrumentation, with relevant experience considered.
  • Proficient in the use of Amtech Prodesign is desirable, and/or the ability to perform manual electrical calculations.
  • Experienced in the specification of 3ph/1ph electrical switchgear and distribution, including sizing and coordination of protective devices.
  • Process Control experience in chemical or pharmaceutical environment.
  • Full understanding of implementation requirements.
