Sterling’s Dudley facility achieves gold status Better Health at Work Award

26th Jan 2023

Sterling Pharma Solutions’ Dudley site has been awarded gold status for their engagement with the North East and Cumbria’s Better Health at Work initiative.

The Better Health at Work Award recognises the efforts of local employers in addressing health issues within the workplace. The Gold Standard award, achieved by Sterling, builds upon the Silver Standard award it obtained in 2021. The gold award requires companies to not only promote health internally within the workplace, but also to look outside of their own organisation and promote health within the wider community.

James Rogers, EVP and Site Head of the Dudley site, said: “I am delighted by the news that we have been awarded the Gold Standard Better Health at Work Award.

“We have run a number of successful campaigns over the last 12 months, and it has been great to see the involvement from across the site.”

Most recently, our Health and Wellbeing team ran a campaign to promote the effects of seasonal affective disorder. Awareness was created around the physical and mental effects of the condition and employees were able to enter a competition to win a Lumie sunrise alarm clock, LED therapy light or a 10 session pass for Hotpod Yoga to combat winter blues.”

Internally, the health advocate team at Sterling has focused on a selection of topics including stress and mental health, summer and winter wellness, and women’s and men’s health, as part of the 2022 Better Health at Work campaign. This included activities around alcohol awareness, fitness classes, menopause, mental health workshops and infant CPR sessions to equip employees with important skills they could use outside the workplace.

Some 2022 campaigns have also included fundraising activities, with donations going to a number of charities or causes, such as men’s mental health and cancer charities. For example, holding a raffle at our summer party, hosting the annual Macmillan Coffee Morning, and running a Movember campaign. In addition to the funds generated by the activity of the Health and Wellbeing team, Sterling has donated to several local causes to support various health related community groups, such as youth football teams and arts centres, community gyms and dementia units.
